how can you travel from Chicago IL to New York City via train?
we are trying to avoid flying in a plain so, we would like to know how to get to new york from chicago via train or bus?
Amtrak has 5 routes to Penn Station in NYC. with varying fares. 2 are direct routes and the other 3 have a train change in Pittsburgh or in Washington, DC The trip will take from 20 hrs to 24 hrs. The cheapest fare was $109. Add $184 for a reserved roomette…$293. Next week fares are cheaper than closer dates:

There are 3 daily Greyhound busses that will take you to the same Penn Station. Duration of trip ranges from 21 hr 40 min to 25 hr 50 min….$87.50 online fare….no roomettes:

The amtrak but it takes forever and a day and cost about the same or more as a flight.
