How fast is travel by L Train in Chicago?
I’m going to be in Chicago for Lollapalooza and am trying to get scheduling and everything figured out. I’m going to be using the L Train for my main form of transport. I just need help figuring out how long it will take to get from place to place on it. My hotel is right by the airport and the concert is at Grant Park.
I will be staying near O’Hare Airport.
Which airport?
If you are coming from Midway Airport, the Orange Line will get you downtown in a little more than a half hour. You can get off at either Jackson or Monroe and Wabash and walk over to Grant Park.
From O’Hare you take the Blue Line. It takes between 40 and 45 minutes to get downtown. Here you would get off at either Monroe and Dearborn or at Jackson and Dearborn….its an extra couple block walk to Grant Park from the Blue Line.
Check this site out: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ as you can actually plan your route getting downtown from the hotel (find the address of the hotel you are staying at) and you can use the drop down box to find Grant Park.
For what its worth: the Blue Line runs 24/7 and the Orange Line runs until 1am…in case you’re a night owl!!
Have fun!

If you’re lucky, about 45 minutes. But these days you have to give yourself at LEAST an hour. You’ll be traveling on the weekend (Lollapalooza is on the weekend, right?) and they are currently doing repairs on the O’Hare branch of the Blue Line train with frequent delays. they are doing most of the repairs on the weekends and evenings so they don’t interfere with weekday rush hour commuters. Give yourself plenty of time to get from you hotel to Grant Park.

Why are you taking the "L"? Can’t you do metra? I live in Chicago and I would not ride the L ever. Metra is safer and cleaner. Which airport? Midway or O’hare? there is a world of difference in the two of them.

Very slow and the blue line is the worst cause you have to transfer over to another crapy line. Too much construction now.
